An Introduction to Rooted & Written: When God Uses the Digital to Do the Eternal
There is a verse in Romans that many of us cling to in seasons of difficulty. That God works all things together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. But I have been thinking lately about how that promise extends beyond our hardships. God works through all things. Even the things we might not expect. Even technology.
I will be honest. Technology can feel isolating. Screens can pull us away from the people sitting right next to us. Social media can leave us comparing rather than connecting. And yet, God has never been limited by the tools of any generation. He used a burning bush, a donkey, a shepherd's staff, and the written word on scrolls carried across ancient roads. He is more than capable of using a screen, a podcast, or a blog post to speak truth into someone's life.
I know this because He did it for me.
I came to faith later in life. And before I ever stepped into a church that would become home, God was already at work. Through a random blog post I stumbled across at midnight. Through a book a coworker mentioned in passing. Through an article from a church whose name I cannot even remember. These were small, quiet seeds planted by people who had no idea I was reading. But God knew. And those seeds took root.
I think about that often. Somewhere out there, someone wrote a few hundred words about the grace of God and hit publish, probably wondering if anyone would ever read it. And years later, those words were part of the Christ-journey that changed my life. That is the kind of thing only God can do. He takes the ordinary and makes it eternal.
That is why I am so excited about what we are building here at Valley Bible Church. This space, Rooted and Written, our resources, this entire digital Christ-journey of our church, exists because we believe God can use it. Not as a replacement for gathering together on Sunday morning, but as a way to extend encouragement beyond our walls. A way to equip you for Monday through Saturday. A way to plant seeds in the lives of people we may never meet this side of heaven.
Whether you are a longtime member of Valley or someone who just found us online, we want this to be a place where your faith is nourished. Through devotionals and study tools. Through honest writing from people in our church family. Through resources that have shaped us and might shape you too.
God uses all things for good. Even a website. Especially when it is built to point people to Him.
We are grateful to be part of what He is doing. In our church, in the Connecticut River Valley, and wherever these words might reach. Welcome to the journey.
